The adventure begins as Associate Producer … I can’t believe life has brought me here! After a turbulent few years selling my soul to anyone who was vying for an actor, I finally have attained some control, a moments peace.

Producing was never something I fantasised or dreamt about like I did acting, but when the opportunity arose I realised just like there are many ways to skin a cat, there are many ways to make your dreams come true, and if I didn’t seize the opportunity and embrace this new path I may never reach my destination! I know this sounds very new age of me, but its amazing how a little bit of hope and renewed positivity can make the journey so much more exciting.

In a week from now, Shaana would be witness to her Big Friday. She would be seen sharing stage with none other than Big B in BHOOTHNATH and would have much more screen presence than what audience saw of her as Laila in NAMASTEY LONDON. As Katrina Kaif’s friend, she was noticed for sure and the result was BHOOTHNATH where she plays Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter in law and Priyanshu Chatterjee’s wife.

“At the moment, time is just flying by. I am going through the motions and letting it all sink in that in a few days from now, I would be witness to my big release”, says Shaana who has been fascinated by the world of Bollywood flicks ever since she can remember.

However, acting in front of camera isn’t the only thing which fascinates this half Gujarati-half Swiss girl. Apparently she is a writer as well and ensures that she finds times to pen her thoughts. “That’s true, I have a passion of writing stuff as well”, reveals Shaana, “And I won’t really bluff that it is hidden or anything since writing is something that I have been pursuing for quite some time. I have been writing poems whereas movie scripting is something which I am involving myself as well.”

Any particular subject that she is exploring?

“Some time back I was ill for a long time”, Shaana says in a soft tone, “While lying down on a bed, there were quite a few thoughts which used to strike my mind. I used to wonder about a lot of things as life took a different meaning in those days. This is when I started taking life more seriously and reflected a lot in its true meaning. These are the thoughts which form the germ of this script I am writing as my experience with illness came in handy.”

How is the script shaping up? Considering the fact that it deals with illness, would it be a grim/dark picture in the making?

Laughs Shaana, “Arrey, not at all. My narrative would be more in a comical manner rather than turning too intense. This matter is close to my heart and I don’t want an overtly serious tale to be told.”

Shaana Diya, the young actor who made her debut in NAMASTEY LONDON and would now be seen in a bigger role in BHOOTHNATH, is all praises for Amitabh Bachchan.

In this Vivek Sharma directed film Shaana plays Priyanshu Chatterjee’s wife and hence Big B’s daughter in law.

“BHOOTHNATH was just my second Bollywood film and I was required to share platform with none less than Amitabh Bachchan. I have quite a few scenes with him and I was apprehensive about how it would be working him”, recollects Shaana who has prominently lived in Switzerland followed by London and has now made Mumbai as her base.

“However, to my pleasant surprise he was always so helpful on the sets. There was never a minute when he wasn’t being his natural self out there”, says Shaana fondly, “Even though he comes with decades of experience and had relatively newer actors around him, he was always a thorough gentleman and never demonstrated any airs.”

With a mixed lineage of a Gujarati mother and a Swiss Jew father, Shaana is in her early 20s and has been a part of a few independent films in New York before she set her eyes on Bollywood. Though she had a small part in NAMASTEY LONDON, she was noticed as a result of which BHOOTHNATH came calling.

Since BHOOTHNATH is primarily a film about a ghost (played by Amitabh Bachchan) and the relationship he shares with a child (Aman Siddiqui), doesn’t she feel that her performance has the risk of going unnoticed?

“I agree that the film has Mr. Bachchan as the central protagonist and the child plays a major role in the film. Regardless of this, I do hope that I will be noticed. In any case, since the film has number of male actors with Mr. Bachchan, Aman, Priyanshu, Rajpal Yadav, Satish Shah and Shah Rukh Khan, my as well as Juhi Chawla’s presence as the only females would bring in a different flavour to BHOOTHNATH”, smiles Shaana.
